What the maths can't tell you

  • Conversion rate. A BOGO usually needs a higher breakeven ROAS than full price, but it can lift conversion hard enough to clear it. The "orders vs full price" figure is the lift it has to earn.
  • Who it brings in. Discount-first buyers don't always come back at full price. Watch repeat rate, not just launch-week revenue.
  • Timing. The same offer performs very differently in a round-one lull and in a big round. Match the offer to the moment.
  • Returns. Multi-item orders can return one item. If your return rate is high, pad the cost per unit.

I'll look at your numbers and your store, and send back which offer I'd test first and how I'd run it. No pitch deck, no auto-sequence.

How breakeven ROAS works

What is breakeven ROAS?

It's the return on ad spend where an order pays for itself and nothing more. Below it, every sale from an ad loses you money. Above it, you're in profit. It's the number to judge a campaign against, rather than a benchmark from someone else's business.

How do you calculate it?

Take what's left of an order after GST, product cost, shipping, packing and payment fees. That's your contribution. Divide the order total by it: breakeven ROAS = order value ÷ contribution. The contribution is also your breakeven CPA, the most you can pay to get one order.

What's a good ROAS?

Any ROAS comfortably above your own breakeven. A store keeping 60% of each order can profit at 2x, while one keeping 30% loses money at 3x. That's why a single "good ROAS" figure doesn't exist, and why a discount that lowers your margin raises the ROAS you need.

Why compare offers?

Every promo changes the maths. A BOGO doubles your product cost on the same order value, so it needs a much higher ROAS than full price. A bundle can need a lower one. The calculator runs all of them on your numbers so you can see which ones are worth paying to promote.

Estimates only. Breakeven ROAS here is measured on the full order total the customer pays (product plus shipping, incl. GST). If your ad platform reports a different value, adjust accordingly. Not financial advice.
